Color fastness testing instruments are not single standalone machines, but a full suite of testing devices designed for diverse simulation scenarios. They replicate real-life usage conditions of textiles to measure the binding stability of fabric dyes, complying with globally recognised standards including GB, ISO and AATCC.
Real-scenario simulation
Equipped with precise temperature control, friction, light irradiation and liquid soaking modules, the equipment accurately reproduces daily wear conditions such as washing, perspiration exposure, sunlight ageing, dry & wet rubbing, and seawater immersion. For instance, washing fastness testers deliver adjustable temperature ranging from 0℃ to 98℃ with constant stirring to mimic laundry agitation, while perspiration testers recreate acidic and alkaline sweat environments matching human skin secretions.
Standardised grading system
Post-test fabric samples are compared with original untreated specimens and standard adjacent fabrics. Grey scale cards or digital spectrophotometric sensors are used to assign a color fastness grade from Level 1 to Level 5 — Level 5 represents zero colour transfer/fading, whereas Level 1 indicates severe dye bleeding. This digitalised assessment eliminates subjective errors caused by manual visual judgement.
